Summary
Tech lead with 17 years of experience designing, building, and operating cloud-native platforms and leading engineering teams by example. I specialise in turning manual, error-prone infrastructure processes into fully automated, secure, and compliant systems — from landing zones and reusable CI/CD pipelines to multi-tenant Kubernetes architectures. I teach, coach, and share knowledge as a core part of how I raise the bar for the teams I work with, both internally and through public speaking at conferences and meetups.
Experience
Cloud Engineer — Jumbo
Amsterdam, Netherlands (Remote) · November 2022 – December 2025
- Designed and implemented Azure Landing Zones to standardise how development teams deploy to the cloud, replacing a fragmented process where each team had to devise their own solution.
- Automated the full landing zone provisioning workflow: subscription creation, VNET peering with the central hub, IAM configuration, and CI/CD pipeline access — eliminating weeks of manual work and third-party dependency per onboarding.
- Authored and enforced Azure Policies across all landing zones to ensure compliance with organisational security and governance standards.
- Built reusable CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions, enabling the most mature teams to deploy multiple times per day.
- Provisioned and managed infrastructure using Terraform and Python, with GitHub Actions orchestrating all automation.
Software Developer — 84codes
Remote · October 2025 – December 2025
- Designed and built a hardware-to-cloud demo kit for conferences and workshops, showcasing LavinMQ with real sensor data instead of synthetic inputs.
- Programmed ESP32 boards with DHT11 sensors (C++/Arduino) to push temperature and humidity readings to LavinMQ queues.
- Developed a Ruby backend to forward queue messages to a central Prometheus instance connected to Grafana dashboards for live visualisation.
- Containerised the full development environment with Docker and automated deployments to Heroku via GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines.
Team Lead DevOps — GrandVision
Amsterdam, Netherlands · November 2020 – November 2022
- Led a team of 5 senior DevOps engineers to architect and operate a multi-tenant, cloud-native microservices platform on Azure (AKS, EventHub, CosmosDB, API Management, Application Gateway).
- Owned all infrastructure provisioning with Terraform and all deployment automation via Azure DevOps Pipelines.
- Collaborated closely with the Product Owner to balance platform stability with rapid feature delivery.
- Introduced Portable Pipelines — reusable, composable CI/CD pipeline templates that scaled across the microservices architecture and reduced pipeline duplication.
Lead DevOps / Security Engineer — ING
Amsterdam, Netherlands · October 2018 – August 2020
- Managed and extended a large-scale CI/CD platform (GitLab, Mesos, Marathon, CephFS) running 1,500+ Jenkins and SonarQube instances serving the global engineering organisation.
- Led the migration from on-premises CI/CD infrastructure to Azure DevOps, deploying Azure Pipelines Agents on-prem in a hybrid model.
- Designed and built the entire monitoring stack for the hybrid CI/CD platform; containerised Azure Pipelines Agents, reducing multi-datacenter deployment time from ~25 minutes to ~5 minutes.
- Ensured SOx compliance for all CI/CD tooling; implemented multi-tenant access controls to isolate team assets.
- Ran a bi-weekly 4-hour “Chapter Time” learning module, teaching engineers across the organisation about Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes, AWS, Azure, and Azure DevOps.
Software Engineer — Container Solutions
Amsterdam, Netherlands · July 2015 – August 2018
- Researched, developed, and integrated programmable infrastructure tooling (Terraform, Kubernetes, Mesos, Ansible, Jenkins) for clients undergoing cloud-native transformations.
- Embedded with Google PSO and GCP teams at their Amsterdam and Zurich offices for 6 months, supporting customer migrations to GKE.
- Organised and ran the HashiCorp User Group, Software Circus, and Docker meetups in Amsterdam.
- Spoke at multiple conferences on DevOps, cloud migration, and cultural transformation in engineering organisations.
Ruby on Rails Senior Developer — Springest
Amsterdam, Netherlands · February 2014 – June 2015
- Maintained and extended full-stack features; optimised SQL queries and reviewed code.
- Contributed to the migration from Solr to Elasticsearch and the infrastructure migration from Rackspace to AWS.
Ruby on Rails Senior Developer (Freelance)
2012 – 2014 · qliqSoft, Spindal, First100Calls
- qliqSoft: Designed and implemented front-end, back-end, and API features; built a background notification system for desktop and mobile clients.
- Spindal: Developed features across an Ember.js SPA front-end and Rails back-end.
- First100Calls: Designed and built the full system including Twilio API integration.
Ruby on Rails Senior Developer — Koombea S.A.S.
Bogotá, Colombia · February 2011 – September 2011
- Developed, maintained, and rescued multiple Rails applications using BDD/TDD; performed database performance tuning.
Ruby on Rails Senior Developer — iWin.im
Bogotá, Colombia · January 2010 – January 2011
- Designed and built a sweepstakes and contests platform integrated with Facebook and Twitter APIs.
